Cellulite is the lumpy substance resembling cottage cheese that is commonly found on the thighs, stomach, and butt. Descriptive names for cellulite include orange peel syndrome, cottage cheese skin, the mattress phenomenon, and hail damage.Cellulite is enough to make any woman cringe. That's because it looks awful. It appears in the form of bumpy or dimpled skin. Although it's not a serious medical condition and is nothing more than a normal variation of ordinary fat, the presence of cellulite can lower one's self-esteem and erode a person's confidence. There is a treatment that can lower its severity.
“Cellulite ranges in severity. Mild cases can only be seen when the skin is pinched - the dimpling appears in the pinched skin.
More severe cases make the skin appear rumpled and bumpy with areas of peaks and valleys. Cellulite is most common around the thighs and buttocks, but it can be found on the breasts, lower abdomen and upper arms as well.At least eight out of 10 women have cellulite and the risk of getting it increases as you age since this is the time that the skin loses some of its elasticity. Stress, an inactive lifestyle, weight gain, and the use of hormonal contraceptives may increase your chances of getting cellulite. The condition also runs in families.
Cellulite treatment has been found to be indistinguishable from ordinary fat in every medical and scientific test. It is not proven whether any cosmetic lotion, massager or pills can reduce/increase cellulite versus ordinary fat.
“Poor blood and lymphatic circulation, hormonal imbalances, connective tissue weakness, premature skin aging, poor nutrition, excessive alcohol intake and/or a sedentary lifestyle may contribute to the problem. Cellulite is not a skin condition of the modern age.
Now that you know what cellulite is, how do you get rid of it? Don't expect miracles from massage, rubbing, heat or plastic wraps – they rarely work. They may reduce cellulite treatment temporarily by reducing the amount of fluids in the area. However, as soon as the fluids are replaced, the area goes back to its original size.
Surgical procedures such as liposuction may help in some cases but this is an extreme measure with a lot of expenses, discomforts, and risks. In others, surgery may make cellulite look worse. Tags: Health Womens Health Cellulite cellulite treatment |
